He sought a declaration for his right to engage in employment without discrimination or the need for specific ministerial permission

Zarah Harper v. The Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service

Zarah Harper, a businesswoman and owner of Vibe 103 radio station, was arrested at her home on 12 October 2020 as part of a police investigation into an event held at Blu Restaurant during COVID-19 restrictions. Harper challenged the legality of her arrest, the search of her home, and a related search warrant issued for her business premises (Vibe 103). She claimed the arrest was unlawful, as no warrant was issued, and police failed to justify their actions under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 2006 (PACEA). The court reviewed the procedural irregularities in obtaining the warrant and the lack of justification for the summary arrest.

Uprise Corporation Ltd., Wise Spirit International Ltd., and Taishan Capital Management Ltd. sought a court order compelling Mingyuan Medicare Development Company Ltd. to convene its Annual General Meeting (AGM), which had been delayed since June 2014. The applicants, minority shareholders, argued that the delay violated the Companies Act 1981 and the company's bylaws. Mingyuan, whose chairman was a registered ?dishonest person? in China, had also been accused of financial mismanagement, including missing funds and the resignation of auditors. The applicants requested the court?s intervention to enable the shareholders to vote on new board appointments and governance reforms.

LIONEL THOMAS v THE CRIMINAL INJURIES (COMPENSATION) BOARD

Mr. Thomas was shot near his house on 29 April 2014 resulting in wounds to his upper right thigh and left calf. He applied for compensation on 24 October 2014. The Board awarded him $5750 for pain and suffering without providing reasons.

Divorce case involving ancillary relief claims child of the family determination and negative equity in property. Parties married on 21 July 2007 Decree Nisi issued on 25 January 2013. Husband seeks ancillary relief for mortgage shortfall transfer of wife's property interest to him and monthly payments for child's expenses. Wife has left Bermuda and expressed disinterest in participating.

Francis owner of a security company convicted for intruding on the privacy of a woman (employee) by putting her in a headlock without permission and sexual assault by pulling up her shirt and exposing her bra and breast. The incidents occurred during his rounds at a protected premises.
